Many Clients are a Bit Apprehensive Of the 2005 Accord Hybrid, I wish to Answer Most of the Frequently Asked Questions

1. What will the maintenance of a Hybrid car be like in Nigeria? i.e do we have competent hands/mechanics to service it?

2. Can the alternative power source(electric) be deactivated in case it becomes faulty?

3. As my first car, do you genuinely advise me to get a hybrid?

4. Several things have been said about the advantages of hybrids, what are the likely disadvantages?

5. Why is the Guy Selling the car ?

Answers

Answer 1. Most hybrid cars DO NOT require any additional regular maintenance on the hybrid-specific components.

The Petrol engine in a hybrid vehicle requires the same maintenance that it would if it were the only power source driving the vehicle. That means oil changes every 5,000-10,000 miles depending on the vehicle and the driving conditions.

In ordinary vehicles the brake pads need to be changed regularly. But the Accord hybrids' regenerative braking systems and their reduced heat means their brake pads typically last much longer.

It can be fixed by Most Qualified Auto Mechanics Around.

Answer 2. The Hybrid Battery Comes With a 7 year Warranty if Car was Driven at an Average 15,000 miles Per Year, MY 2005 Hybrid has 44,000 miles Left on Which Which Techincally Leaves it with 4 year Warranty.

The calculation

15,000 miles Per Year X 7 Years Warranty = 105,000 Miles

44,000 miles Exhausted Out of 105,000 Miles = 61,000 miles

61,000 Miles Divided by 15,000 Miles being Average Miles Per Year = 4 Years Warranty.

The Result Shows that This Hybrid Battery is technically covered with Warranty up till 2013 Averagely before any Fault is Expected at all.

Answer 3.
I advise you to Go for an Hybrid as Your First Car, By 2015 Most Vehicles Would Come With Hybrid Powered Engine A Major Reason being because of the Partial Zero emission Which has No Direct Effect on the Ozone layer, Eco Friendly Engines

Answer 4.

Hybrid cars, though useful, have some disadvantages. The point to be noted is that the advantages far exceed the disadvantages.

Expensive to Acquire, Typically, The Non Naija Used 2005 Hybrid Honda Accord is More Expensive than a 2007 Honda Accord EX or LX Combined.

Most Naija Road Side Mechanic might feel Intimidated by the Engine Appearance

Hybrid Cars are Light Weights, Its a disadvantage during Stormy Weather conditions which is not applicable to Nigeria, No Hurricanes, No Snow Driving.

No Car is 100% perfect and it is good to know that producers are in the constant search to making hybrid cars more user friendly and less prone to accidents.

not sure, but from my understandin, hybrid could be seen as multiple system which got different operational-modes, still produces the same output anyway. but not sure if these applies in locomotives

mode 1  your car might be operating on electric-power? hence burn less fuel, protect the environments

mode 2 petrol

mode 3 god knows

however verify cuz me not too sure if this is the case

Like others said, your camry is a hybrid uses a combination of two power sources to propel your car. However you must be mindful of how this particular technology works and is applied in your particular car.

The Camry Hybrid uses a gasoline/petrol engine in combination with electric drive system. The electric drive is powered by a 650V electric motor which is fitted with special NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) battery for electric supply. The entire system is controlled by a system called VDIM (Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management).

Based on traffic conditions and driving habit, the VDIM controls and decides what mode of power to use for propulsion. Essentially, your car switches to electric power in snail paced or slow traffic. However, when you demand power to accelerate to highway speed, both the electric motor and the gasoline engine work together (automatically) to give your smooth and fast acceleration. At highway cruise speed, the gasoline engine works alone while also charging your NiMH batteries. The system is also design to regenerate some electric power for re-charging your batteries when you brake.

In Lagos traffic, many times your Camry will be completely silent - this is becos it would have switched to electric power! The advantage of this technology is better fuel economy for both urban and highway driving conditions. The disadvantages as far as using it in Lagos are however numerous:
1) Hybrid Camry shares very few mechanical components with the other regular Camrys.
2) Hybrid Camry may require special mechanic expertise which I doubt even the big Lagos Toyota dealerships can give you. (If your VDIM goes bad or electrical problems arise)
3) Hybrid Camry uses a different petrol engine as compared to the standard 2.4L 4Cyl engine.
4) Hybrid Camry is fitted with a CVT transmission as compared to the standard 6 speed Automatic in the regular Camry
5) Consequent upon the above stated reasons, your Hybrid Camry may be costlier to maintain (however this may not be the case if you are a meticulous user!)
